RISE: Regional Initiative in Science and EducationClick on network names below for monthly updates.AMSEN RISE-AFNNET SABINA SSAWRN WIO-RISE* Click here for Carnegie Reporter feature on RISE * RISE prepares PhD and MSc-level scientists and engineers in sub-Saharan Africa through university-based research and training networks in selected disciplines. Its primary emphases are on training new faculty to teach in African universities and on upgrading the qualifications of current faculty. In an intense competition that attracted 48 proposals from 29 African countries, five networks were selected in mid-2008 by an international panel of distinguished scientists. RISE is supported by a grant from Carnegie Corporation of New York. It is administered by the Science Initiative Group in partnership with the African Academy of Sciences.
International Partners: While RISE grant funds are to be used for activities in Africa, primarily within RISE network institutions, RISE networks also will be encouraged to engage in collaborative activities with individuals and institutions outside of Africa. SIG will facilitate partnerships in the form of visits by senior faculty from outside of Africa to RISE network nodes (GSC), semesters at non-African universities for RISE network students, and international research collaborations. Representatives of universities outside of Africa interested in exploring opportunities for partnerships with RISE networks are encouraged to contact us. |
